Subjects Tutored: Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus

I specialize in all levels of high school math, from Pre-Algebra up through Pre Calculus. I have experience tutoring students with Asperger’s syndrome, ADHD, and ADD (ADHD-PI).  With nine years of teaching high school math my primary goal is always to make a student comfortable, no fear and no pressure.

How do I get started?

Getting started is easy.  A student will show me their homework or where they are in the class.  I evaluate where they need to improve their understanding as well as identify their learning style.  From there we build a strong understanding of how to master each concept including the ability to apply those concepts in different types of problems.  I emphasize the skills needed to solve word problems as they are always a large part of CST (STAR), CAHSEE, and SAT tests.

Can you help with entry or evaluation tests?

Taking exams for entry to graduate school, testing out of high school, or applying to colleges require a different approach than taking a single math class.  Using a set of released questions or specific required topics, I evaluate the areas that need remediation or may have been entirely overlooked.  Once the concepts are in place we review with practice tests.  Knowing what is on the test and how to solve specific types of problems is a huge advantage.  Students that feel they are prepared have no issues with test anxiety.

B.S. Chemical Engineering- University of California Santa Barbara

B.S. Chemistry – University of California Santa Barbara

Single Subject Math Credential – San Francisco State University

Supplementary Credentials – Chemistry and Introductory Science

Graduating from UC Santa Barbara I spent my early years working as a chemical engineer for Intel and other companies.  Moving into the growing field of computers, I eventually founded my own company which designed  computer networks using Cisco routers. Having raised my own children I had spent a lot of time in high schools and wanted to be a part of that unique community and culture. In 2003 I received my teaching credential from S.F. State University. I have been teaching for nine years, every subject from Pre-Algebra to Pre-Calculus.  I have done tutoring each year and now understand that this one to one work is what I enjoy the most.
